Run. do it.
Here's something fun I shared on LinkedIn the other day. I'm a big fan of this one, so enjoy you little data dork...
------------------------------------------------------------------
Last night I said to myself, “Mike, you beautiful soul, go for a run in the morning. It’ll be fun.”
And guess what happened when I woke up…
It was raining.
Those little drops of water mocked me from above and laughed at my face.
I didn’t want to be that crazy guy you see running in the rain. So, I gave the rain the respect it deserved and waved my white flag.
I decided to get an extra 30 minutes of beauty sleep to get me going for the day.
It was warmer this way.
More comfortable.
Easier to do.
But that decision didn’t last long.
5 minutes later, I was out the door, off on my morning run. Like a crazy man.
Okay…
Why am I sharing this with you?
What the heck does this have to do with data?
Well, slow down, you little data dork…
Don’t get ahead of yourself like you’re doing right now on your data journey -- yeah, you know it’s probably true.
I’m sharing this because the same thing’s happening to me as I conquer the Dorky World of Data.
There are days I’m pumped.
Feeling on top of the world.
Ready to put any data task in a chokehold.
Then reality hits.
It’s time to actually do the task.
And there’s always some excuse not to do it.
And recently, I’ve been embracing those excuses.
But that’s not okay…
Things can’t be this way forever.
That’s why I love days like today…
Even though the weather sucks, I went for a run. I did what I said I’d do.
And this is something I’m translating to my journey in the data world. Most days, I don’t want to study and learn like I plan.
While I won’t completely abolish those days, I’m sure gonna have a lot less of them.
Now I know that all I've gotta do is start.
Nice and simple.
Once you’re outside, with your feet hitting the ground, you’ll forget it’s even raining.
