New Note-taking Idea
I currently take notes in a few places:
- Notebooks
- Notion
- Google Docs
- Apple Notes
I'll never stop using notebooks. There's something about writing notes by hand that makes me feel good.
But I'm considering moving away from Notion, Google Docs, and Apple Notes.
When it comes to digital note-taking, I think I may switch to text files.
I got this idea while reading a Derek Sivers article.
I don't always think long-term. But I should when it comes to my notes. Some I'd like to revisit and have in the future. And by future, I mean in 10+ years.
Technology changes, however...
The tools we use today may not be the same ones we use in 5-10 years.
One day, Notion may not exits. And though unlikely, Google Docs may not exist.
I could lose all my notes suddenly. Or, I may not be able to read/edit them easily.
So, I want my notes to exist in a format that isn't vulnerable to other softwares.
That's why text files sound attractive right now.
They've been around for over 40 years. They have stood the test of time. So long as I backup my new notes frequently, I'll probably never lose them and always be able to edit them.
That's nice.
I'm not sure if I actually will follow through with this idea, but it's an idea I felt like sharing here.
