Cool Things I Found 8/19 to 8/25
It's time for yet another edition of "Cool Things I Found This Week."
Here I share the top pieces of content I read, watched, or listened to over the last seven days.
I also share my favorite takeaway or two from each piece.
Let's do it...
1) How to get people to DO WHAT YOU WANT
You need sales skills. Even if you don't work as a salesperson.
Want to find a romantic partner? You need sales skills to sell the idea of you as a partner.
Want to land your dream job? You need sales skills to sell yourself as the best candidate.
Want to convice your family to eat Chinese food instead of Italian for dinner tonight? Well, you need sales skills to make Chinese food seem like the better deal.
I could go on.
Sales is everything.
And I now realize the people who win the most in life are those who know how to sell.
So, this week, I watched and read a lot of Ryan Serhant's content. He's one of NYC's top Real Estate Moguls and has his own Real Estate Brokerage that's probably worth close to or more than $1 Billion.
This is one of the videos that fascinated me.
2) Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman!
I'm still reading this Richard Feynman memoir.
But I'm loving it so far.
It's one of the few memoirs I've read that actually entertained me. Most memoirs suck. They're either written by a bad storyteller or boring person. But this one defies both of those ideas.
Here are my two biggest takeaways so far:
- Be curious and wonder how things work. Feynman is one of America's most well known physicists. And a lot of his success comes from his relentless curiosity. He always wanted to learn more about how the world works. And that paid off well for him.
- Have fun and enjoy life. Most academics are serious people. And most people in all aspects of life are too serious. Feynman made sure he balanced work with fun. Especially as a young kid in school, he always played pranks and joked around with people. I would bet a lot of money that he had a good time.
3) How To Become A Copywriter (without any experience at all)
I'm not sure what I want to do in the future.
I love working as a data analyst and solving the problems I do know. But I'm not sure if it's something I want to dedicate my life to.
So, I'm always exploring and researching different fields and professions.
This week, I researched copywriting.
And I came across this article by Neville Medhora. I've consumed a lot of his content over the last few months, so I know he's a good writer.
In fact, he's one of the few people I've seen on the internet that can make writing concise, informative, and entertaining.
4) why is modern dating so hard?
If you're young and trying to date, there's a high chance you feel stressed and overwhelmed with the dating process. I feel ya.
This article breaks down some reasons dating today is so damn difficult for people.
Definitely a fascinating read.
I forgot how I crossed paths with this article. I went down a Substack rabbit hole a few days ago and all I remember is ending with this post. Hence why I'm sharing it.
Here's my biggest takeaway...
Dating is one of those things that's easy to understand from a theoretical standpoint. You can read, study, and talk about the topic all you want. Probably won't be too hard.
But once you try applying your knowledge in the real world, everything changes.
Taking action and trying to "make something happen" is a major area people struggle with in dating.
